Across to Ballycastle
This small painting began as a quick en plein air study, worked on from memory, after returning to the studio. This one depicts the landscapes on view from Inishowen Head, East Inishowen, above Shroove lighthouse. From this stunning loop walk you can enjoy views across towards Portrush and Ballycastle. On a clear day you can pick out Mussenden Temple and the Downhill Demesne. I’ve even seen dolphins here. Such a peaceful place. There are the remains of a small cluster at the base of these cliffs which is said to be the leaving point for St. Columba when he left Ireland for Iona.
The painting has been built in layers by print and brush, abstracting paint as necessary to create the atmosphere desired.
