August Moonlit laughter – Lúnasa gáire gealaí

A second full moon of the month is called a blue moon and this one rose at the end of August in 2023 while I swam in the waters of Lough Foyle at Shroove.  It was also what’s called a ‘Supper Moon’ when the moon’s orbit brings it close to the Earth.  This place is a magical place to swim for me.  As the moon rose behind Benevenagh the lighthouse came on.  Being in the water at that time was invigorating and quite a spiritual experience.  There are often seals in the area and occasionally dolphins.  I swim with friends and often have a small, contained log fire on the beach.  This moon brought many groups, mainly women, to gather and swim and laugh together along this small sandy cove.
