Misty Morning (fine art print)

Misty Morning began with the land at daybreak, when a low mist reduced familiar fields and hills to broken shapes.

I kept the palette tight: muted cadmium yellow, burnt sienna and Prussian blue. Ochre glows faintly through the haze, sienna gives weight to the ground, and the deeper blue pushes the distance back.

Mist changes the scale of a place. Roads and hills you know well lose their edges and become uncertain; you have to look harder instead of taking the view for granted.

The painting depends on those colour relationships more than on detail. The yellow gives a dull warmth to the air while sienna and blue hold the land beneath it.

It catches the short interval before the mist lifts, when the countryside is recognisable but not quite itself.
