Moonlight Falling (fine art print)

Moonlight Falling returns to the night-time world I first explored in Night-time Trees in a Blue Satin Dress, rooted in childhood wandering, imagination and my fascination with trees after dark.

At night a woodland rearranges itself. Trunks become silhouettes, branches join into unfamiliar shapes and moonlight arrives only in fragments, catching leaves and ground before vanishing into blue-black shadow.

Moonlight also changes the landmarks we depend on. A red-roofed barn is useful in daylight; after dark it may disappear completely. You have to navigate differently.

That partial visibility interests me. Darkness does not give you the whole scene, only enough to keep moving while imagination fills the rest.

There is still something of the child in the blue satin nightdress here, walking among trees without needing to explain the dark, simply listening to it.

The painting holds that older instinct: the sense that night was not empty, but full of rustling, movement and possibility.
