Portrait of a Mountain in Autumn (fine art print)

Portrait of a Mountain in Autumn returns to Slieve Sneacht, or Sliabh Sneachta, at the heart of Inishowen. I know its outline so well that I can reduce it quite far before it stops feeling like the mountain.

In this version I let shape, weight and colour do more of the work. Russet, ochre, umber and muted green carry the season rather than detailed ridges and slopes.

Autumn changes the mountain differently from winter or spring. The vegetation deepens, the light sits lower and the whole landscape seems to draw inward.

Because the form is so familiar to me, a dark mass against the sky or a shift of colour can be enough.

This is Slieve Sneacht remembered rather than described exactly: mountain, season and memory condensed into paint.
