Slieve League

“Take inside of you that Irish mist
rising at Slieve League To stir art
from this percussion.
The North Atlantic will not stop
its ebb and flow breaking
on quartzite cliffs into mist.”

~ extract from a poem by
Constance Jean Clark, 2024.

As an artist walking the wilds of Slieve League, you are acutely aware of past pilgrims.  These mountains hold the remains of an early Christian monastic site, including a chapel and beehive huts. It is also believed that Slieve League was a place for pilgrimage before the arrival of Christianity to Ireland, with ancient stone remains dotted around the area.

There is certainly an awe for the raw natural beauty of this place.  The blue-grey scree and boulders, the crashing blue-green Atlantic and the drama of Donegal skies that unfold before your eyes the longer you observe them.
