Yellow Pegs (fine art print)

Yellow Pegs was painted from a photograph and from memory. It shows a wooden house in Switzerland where I stayed with family and friends in 1999. High in the Alps, the house was used as part of the seasonal movement of livestock to summer grazing grounds.

Cattle sheds were attached at the back, and the family made cheese from their own milk. The house and sheds were powered by a small water turbine in a nearby stream.

We slept above a goat shed and could see the male goat through gaps in the floorboards. He smelled dreadful, but that was part of the experience, and the place itself was unforgettable.

Here, Susanne is hanging washing on the balcony with bright yellow pegs - a small domestic detail that became the centre of the painting.
